What do I do if my heating doesn’t work?

It is very important that your heating is working properly and we understand problems with your heating can be very inconvenient. It is often the case that a boiler engineer will need to be called out to resolve this but there are a number of things you can actively check before you call us out:

Thermostat – if you have a room stat on the wall, check that this is turned up and therefore requesting heat from the boiler.

Timer – ensure that your timer is in the “on” position or if on “timed” that the time is set correctly.

Radiators – check that your radiators are asking for heat by turning up the valve on the side. If you are only having problems with heat in a certain room it is more likely to be a problem with the radiator than the boiler.

If none of the above improves the situation, the problem is likely with the boiler:

Boiler – if the boiler is an older model, it may be that the pilot light has gone out. Many boilers will have instructions for relighting the pilot light (often on the back of the removable panel or on a sticker attached to the case). If you don’t feel confident in attempting this, please call us for advice.

Alternatively, you may have a newer boiler. To attempt to sort any problem on a newer boiler, you may try pressing the “reset” or “igniter” button and then try the heating again.

Another thing to check is that the boiler pressure hasn’t dropped. There should be a dial on the front or bottom of your boiler and the needle should be between 1 or 2 bars. If the pressure has dropped below 1 the boiler will not function. If this is the case please call us and we can try to talk you through re-pressuring the boiler or send someone out to assist you.

If none of these help resolve the issue please let us know and we can get a boiler engineer out to you ASAP!
